Detailed description
Great mullein, Verbascum thapsus, also known as mullein, is a biennial plant in the Scrofulariaceae family. Native to Europe and Asia, it is recognized for its traditional uses, particularly for respiratory and digestive ailments. The aerial flowering parts are the most widely used in phytotherapy, as they are rich in bioactive compounds such as irridoids and saponins, particularly prized for their antioxidant and soothing properties. These compounds help protect cells against oxidative stress and promote respiratory comfort, while supporting natural immune functions.
Great mullein is also known for its soothing and expectorant effects, thanks to its high mucilage content. These properties make it a natural ally for soothing irritation of the respiratory mucosa and relieving minor throat discomforts.
