Detailed description

Eleutherococcus root, scientifically known as Eleutherococcus senticosus, is a woody plant distinguished by its spiny stems and small yellow or violet flowers. Flavonoids (quercetin, hyperoside, rutin, etc.), coumarins (isofraxidine, scopolamine, etc.), lignans (ferulic acid glucoside, eleutheroside, carotin, syringin, etc.) have been identified as the main chemical constituents of this plant responsible for its numerous health effects.

The root, which is the part authorized for use as a dietary supplement, is thick and fibrous, often light brown in color. Used for centuries in traditional Chinese and Russian medicine, “Siberian ginseng”, a name given by Russians for its ginseng-like properties, helps the body adapt to stress and maintain balance.

In China, it was used to strengthen and improve vitality. Renowned for boosting the immune system’s resistance, Eleutherococcus also has other virtues. It helps protect against oxidative damage in the brain, promoting concentration and cognitive performance.

For the record, during the space race, Russian cosmonauts regularly consumed Eleutherococcus to improve their endurance and resistance to stress in space.
