Detailed description
Hedera helix L. is an evergreen shrubby vine in the Araliaceae family. This species is endemic to Europe and Asia.
Historically, ivy leaf was used to facilitate digestive elimination. Today, preparations based on ivy leaf extract are widely used, generally in the form of syrups, to relieve and soothe the respiratory tract.
Its properties derive mainly from its composition of saponosides (notably hedercoside C) and flavonoids.
