Detailed description
Papaver rhoeas, the poppy, is an annual plant belonging to the Papaveraceous family. It is widely distributed in Europe, Asia and North Africa on cultivated areas, wasteland and roadsides. It is known for its four overlapping scarlet-red petals. They are often used in infusions.
Poppy extracts are said to have antioxidant properties and to inhibit glutamate, the main excitatory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system.
