Detailed description
Common juniper, Juniperus communis, a shrub in the Cupressaceae family, is widespread in temperate regions of the northern hemisphere. Its small, dark berries have been used for centuries in traditional medicine for their many functional benefits.
Juniper berries are rich in essential oils, notably α-pinene, β-pinene, sabinene and limonene, as well as polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins. These bioactive compounds confer antioxidant properties, supporting cellular protection and natural defense mechanisms. Juniper is traditionally used to support elimination functions and promote metabolic balance.
Juniper berries are also studied for their beneficial effects on urinary and digestive comfort, thanks to their soothing and modulating properties.
