Detailed description
Corn stigmas, Zea mays, also known as corn silk, is a by-product of corn crops widely used in medicinal traditions, particularly in Asia and North America. This plant component is recognized for its beneficial effects on metabolic and elimination functions.
Corn stigmas contain a variety of bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins, alkaloids and polysaccharides. These molecules are involved in natural drainage mechanisms.
Studies also highlight their positive effects on glycemic and lipid balance, thanks to their modulating action on certain metabolic enzymes. In addition, their soothing properties contribute to urinary comfort.
Finally, corn stigma extracts have shown interesting potential in supporting immune functions and reducing oxidative stress, by activating antioxidant defense systems.
