Every day, our cardiovascular system performs a mammoth task so that our blood travels 100,000 kilometres of blood vessels distributed throughout our body. Blood is a vital liquid. Its main role is to provide oxygen and nutrients in our organs and remove waste products (CO2) through the kidneys, lungs, liver or intestines. This cycle is repeated infinitely thanks to the blood circulation in one direction and continuous way.

Bodily injury (cuts or internal injuries) can cause bleeding in our vessels. Fortunately, our body is able to neutralize them naturally thanks to the phenomenon of coagulation. Platelets come first to plug the injury and then fibrin (protein) intervenes. This reinforces coagulation by creating a protective net to form a blood clot. When the injured blood vessel heals, the plasmin goes into action to degrade the clot formed. This enzyme is a protease whose role is to degrade fibrin.

However, when the coagulation phenomenon becomes abnormal, our body has difficulties dissolving blood clots especially due to certain risk factors (aging, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, diabetes, hypertension …). Indeed, plasmin level becomes lower and in parallel, fibrin level increases. If blood clots are not destroyed at the end of healing, they can completely clog a vessel and cause cardiovascular complications (World’s leading cause of death worldwide according WHO). The emergence of an atheroma plaque on an arterial wall that breaks can also cause a clot formation that preventing the smooth flow of blood.

What is nattokinase in Nattiase®?

Nattiase® contains a fibrinolytic enzyme called nattokinase. It comes from natto, a soy-based food obtained by fermentation with the bacterium Bacillus subtilis.

An emblem and national treasure of Japan, natto has been consumed for more than 1000 years for its taste and nutritional composition. Much more than a simple dish, natto is considered as a traditional remedy for cardiovascular disease and would also contribute to Japanese longevity. This may be one of the reasons why the Japanese have better cardiovascular health compared to other countries.

In 1987, Dr. Hiroyuki Sumi discovers that natto contains a potent fibrinolytic enzyme called nattokinase. This plays a major role in the dissolution of blood clots that may form following the rupture of an atheromatous plaque (lipid deposition on the vessel wall).

Following the discovery of nattokinase, many studies have shown that its consumption has multiple preventive effects on cardiovascular diseases through its fibrinolytic action, including the reduction of blood pressure.

High blood pressure, what it is?

High blood pressure is the most common cardiovascular disease in France (oneoverthreepeople affected), characterized by excessive blood pressure [INSERM]. The causes are multiple: stress, aging, overweight, sedentary lifestyle, tobacco, alcohol, too much salt, diabetes.

High blood pressure can bring serious consequences if not taken care,especially improving clogging of arteries by atheromatous plaques. High blood pressure is analyzed using 2 different parameters:

  • The systole (high value) corresponding to the heart contraction.
  • The diastole (low value) corresponding to the heart relaxation

High blood pressure is defined when systolic pressure is higher than 140mmHg and/or diastolic pressure is higher than 90mmHg.

Today, it is a real public health problem since it affects one over three adults.Because it is generally“silent”(without symptoms), one person over two is not aware of its high blood pressure. In other words, the persons diagnosed will be treated systematically by any drug ‘s antihypertensive [INSERM]. But the other part needs to take preventive actions.

This is segment where Nattiase® is an interesting preventing alternative due to its reputation to positively regulate blood pressure by reducing the levels of blood viscosity. From10 to 30% of hypertensive subjects, the available drug treatments are sometimes not efficient [INSERM].

However, for 31% of patients under treatment, side effects have an important impact on their quality of life: fatigue, insomnia, heavy legs, dizziness, digestive disorders, … [according to a study from Comité Français de Lutte contre l’Hypertension Artérielle].

Nattiase® has the advantage of being a natural solution for pre-hypertensive people, without any side effects on contrary to certain hypertensive drugs. In fact, nattokinase works by strengthening the action of plasmin (the body’s natural enzyme that dissolves fibrin clots) to prevent blockage of the vessels and to allow a normal blood flow.
