St. John’s Wort Hypericum perforatum is a herbaceous plant of the Clusiaceae family, found in Europe, North Africa and Western Asia. Very popular, it has long been used in traditional medicine, notably in China and Greece.
St. John’s Wort contains a wide range of active ingredients, including volatile oils, flavonoids (quercetin, quercitrin, rutin and hyperoside), anthraquinone derivatives, prenylated phloroglucinols (hyperforin, hypericin and pseudohypericin), tannins, xanthones and other miscellaneous compounds.
