Detailed description
Chaste tree Vitex agnus castus is a member of the Verbenaceae family, endemic to the Mediterranean region and Central Asia. Its fruit has been used for over two millennia in traditional medicine, mainly for disorders linked to premenstrual syndrome, which presents a variety of symptoms, including stress, mood swings, breast tenderness and food cravings.
Effects have also been reported on menstrual cycle regulation, to support fertility, as well as on menopausal symptoms.
Fruit extracts contain essential oils (limonene, cineole), iridoid glycosides (agnosidium and aucubin), diterpenes (vitexilactone, rotondifuran) and flavonoids (casticin, orientin, kaempferol).
